2 out of 5 stars Think twice if you have a dog!   December 22, 2008
MiloJRT (East coast, USA)
Okay, so I just had to add my two cents in here in case anyone else out there has an active dog in the house like I do. Someone gave me this toy for my five month old and he seems quite entertained by it, except for the fact that the balls shoot out EVERYWHERE and this, in turn, makes our Jack Russell Terrier go absolutely nuts. The baby cannot play with the toy without the dog jumping all over the place to grab the balls. Yes, we do remove the dog from the room if the baby is playing with the toy. But right now the baby is too little to chase after the balls himself, so eventually he winds up with nothing to play with in the toy itself (you need to keep feeding the balls back into the machine to get them to spin around and shoot out again). It is recommended for older babies for this reason! Anyway, if you have a family pet who is playful and likes to be involved in everything like our does, you might want to think twice about this one. I was just hoping I could spare someone else who might have the same problem. If you don't have a dog and you don't mind your baby crawling after the balls or eventually cleaning them up yourself, then go for it! The music is cute, the product is colorful, and the whooshing sounds that the balls make as they pop in and out are really fun. I'm not sure how much educational value it has, other than maybe helping some fine motor skills if the baby can catch the balls and dump them back into the machine. But I guess it could be entertaining.

3 out of 5 stars Fun if you like to chase balls   December 20, 2008

My daughter got this toy for her 1st birthday. It does keep her busy for a few minutes but I find it more work for me then anything. The balls will bounce out of the round receiver and then you or someone will have to retrieve it and then place it back into the toy. Sometimes the balls will not get sucked into the air chamber so you will have to push them in manually. Oh by the way, it's kind of loud so I'm glad my kids don't play with it that long. It's a fun toy for the kids to keep busy for about 5 minutes at best.

4 out of 5 stars Musical and exciting for baby   December 18, 2008

My son really loved this ball popper when we first got it. More than the actual popping of the balls, he seemed to love sticking anything that would fit into the chute. I constantly had to turn it over to clear it out. Besides that, the only issue I have with it is that the force of the air pushing the balls up makes the balls fly all over the place. The only way to keep the cycle of balls going up the chute, dropping down and going through the whole thing again is if only two or three balls are used. One of them must be hovering above the air hole when another comes up to push it aside and fall down. In spite of all that, I think it was exciting for my son when all the balls we had in it would fly all over the place. Just not fun for mommy to retrieve them!

3 out of 5 stars Just a warning for some of us.   December 17, 2008

We live in a home with wood floors throughout. The balls pop out high in the air, out of the toy onto the floor and roll away fast, undedr the furniture. I personally really don't like low education toys that cause you to spend more time with it than your kids. I have used the broom to pull the balls out from under the couch, buffet, table and so on everyday since it arrived. For moms and dads who really want a low maintenence toy, be sure you have a plush carpeted area for this thing to stay on. Also it is like a 5.0 on the richter scale, it is LOUD! The fan mechanism requires 4 D batteries and sounds like three blowdryers going at once. Turn down the volume on the circus-like music and sounds? No dice. Which is fine if you don't have siblings trying to nap in homes under 3,000 square feet.
Huge Carpeted home? Buy this toy; it engages the mini-mind for quite a few minutes.

4 out of 5 stars The cats love it too!   December 17, 2008
Bernie (Coatesville, PA)
My husband picked this up much to my initial dismay. It turns out that my cats love this toy just about as much as my (then) 10 month old son did. (The cats try to pop the balls back into the top hole as the balls pop out) It's noisy (both the fan and music) and very quick, and the balls go flying everywhere causing all of us to go scrambling under furniture. Regardless, this toy over the last 7 months has gotten more regular use than most of his other toys. He VERY quickly learned how to make the fan and music start all on his own, and he loves "sorting" all sorts of things (that don't belong) in the open top hole. It's easier to fish out the random objects than I originally feared. He drags it around with him throughout the house, and it's still in perfect shape. It's also nice that it has a few different songs so it's not mind-numbingly repetitive.
