Amazon.com Product Description Forget thinking outside the box--now you can stop worrying about the box altogether. Coby's DVD-224 is about the size of a hardcover book, so whether you're ferrying the player between the kitchen and the bedroom or hooking it up for periodic use by the kids, the DVD-224's small size permits enjoyment of DVD programs and music CDs in just about any room you want. While not portable in the traditional sense--the unit has no screen and requires AC power--the DVD-224 is much easier to move around, set-up, and use than a traditional component DVD player. It handles not only your DVD-Videos (both NTSC- and PAL-formatted discs, depending on your TV), but it plays your music, too--everything from standard CDs to home-burned CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3-encoded CDs. Further, you can load a disc brimming with digital photos for custom slide shows in the comfort of your home theater. An onscreen display simplifies setup and operation, and the unit comes with a compact, full-function remote control. Other features include parental controls (with PIN lock), frame-by-frame slow motion, picture zoom (2x, 4x), and multiple-angle viewing (with applicable discs). Like to travel? The DVD-224 won't hog space in your bag, and an auto-switching universal power supply handles inputs from AC 110 to 220 volts (50/60 Hz) for use in most countries. Accordingly, the unit's onscreen display offers a choice of 5 setup languages: English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. A composite-video output ensures compatibility with nearly any television and many newer computer monitors. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (choose from either optical or coaxial) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. A set of standard left/right RCA analog outputs simplifies hookup with traditional integrated amplifiers and most televisions. What's in the Box DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable.

Great Price but Only Last a year January 8, 2009 Erica N. Leydic (atlanta, GA) I have had the player for about a year and now it no longer will read the discs. I guess it was good the price but just know you will have to replace
Very happy!!! January 7, 2009 Tyler Lindsay (trenton, ohio United States) I was not expecting much when I purchased this product. I was surprised at how light weight it is, and how easy it was to set to multi region. This player is better than my $100 player.
Love cheap dvd players January 6, 2009 Delaney (WI) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Every single time I buy a dvd player from $100.00 to $184.00 they last one year. Granted we watch a lot of dvds, we don't watch t.v. However, that still bites, if I buy the "best" I expect it will work for years, not a year. I bought a cheapo Coby for my family room a year and a half ago, still works, no glitches. So i purchased another one for the basement and my workout room. I'm quite pleased with it, the remote has big buttons, but the remote itself is small. I feature I like but isn't necessary in my workout room is to fast foward within scenes. I watch a lot of long winded BBC epics and the chapters are really long, and so sometimes if you stop and start you don't want to start at the beginning of the chapter again. I can do that on the3 Coby, but interestingly I can't on my Samsung, Sony of Magnavox. Sometimes Cheap is better, Coby is the case. I've never had a disk fail to play on it, even home videos people give me.
Affordable. Minimalist. Compact. January 6, 2009 V. Pinto (San Francisco, CA USA) I bought this for my apartment. Its compact (around the same size as a new hardcover book) and works great. I only wish it had an small screen on the front panel, but I wasn't willing to shell out any extra cash just for a screen. This is simple, functional and you can't beat the price.
Stopped working two months after purchase January 3, 2009 Zen Wat (WA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the Colby DVD player only in October 2008 and it stopped working two months after I bought it. Yes, its super cheap, but it should have certainly lasted longer. And, since the player died two months after the purchase, I couldn't get a refund from Amazon, as they have a 30-day return policy. Almost all stores have a similar policy but if an electronic item stops working within six months, stores like Target, Fred Myers replaces it. I think Amazon needs to rethink its policies.
