1 out of 5 stars laser beam safe a disappointment   January 6, 2009
consumer jim (glen rock, NJ)
My son saw this product in a toy catalog and asked for it for X-mas. He thought it actually had a fingerprint scanner on it. In actuality, it has a light beam that is turned on and off by the combination pad. The fingerprint button is merely a button. So my son was totally disappointed. He said he would have been happy if it made believe it scanned your fingerprint with some kind of light effect or a voice command that said fingerprint scanned.
In addition, there is a poorly constructed shelf inside the safe and somehow a twenty dollar bill slipped behind it. We would have to break the outer plastic to get retrieve the twenty.
All in all, a disappoitment to my son, who collects safes. So we had to buy a different metal safe with a combination to appease him.

My 10 year old loves this. He puts all his "valuables" in it to protect them from his brothers. Easy to use, change password, etc.

Given all the negative reviews on this item, I was hesitant to purchase it for my daughter. However, as my wife pointed out it was one of the few things that she specifically asked to get for Christmas.

To my delight and my daughter's it's been a great bank! She figured out how to reprogram the security code on her own (she's 7) and has been quite happy that her little brother can't figure out how to get into the bank and that the alarm sounds when he tries. She's even reprogrammed it again after I figured out her original code. She's quite happy that her valuables are now safe and secure from prying eyes.

The only problem she had was the bank wouldn't open the other day. New batteries quickly fixed that problem. I figured a week on the cheap batteries that came with the bank wasn't too bad. The bank it self is made out of thick walled plastic (polyproplyene?). It appears rugged enough and has survived several tumbles onto the floor from little brother. We'll see what happens when it gets dropped down our staircase.

The only reason I don't give it five stars is that I'm waiting to see how long the new alkaline batteries I placed in it will last. If I only have to replace them once per month, that's not too bad. After all I've gone through three sets of batteries on my son's battery powered Thomas & Friend's locomotive in the week since Christmas. And finally, I'm waiting to see if it really is little brother proof.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, great price, great TOY!   December 30, 2007

Even the adults in the house have played with this safe, and it really is a lot of fun, as a TOY. First of all, the kids can program it themselves and have overstuffed the drawer again and again, without ONE problem. It may eat batteries (most of these things do) but we haven't had to replace them yet, with weeks of constant use. We did read and follow the directions carefully, and EVERY function operates just as it is supposed to. What are people expecting for this price? This clearly is not intended to be one of the higher end, electronic devices and there are also plenty of "real" safes to choose from. If this one does eventually break, I will happily purchase a replacement! According to some of the reviews, there appear to be some quality control issues, so I don't know how to explain why ours has none of those. Perhaps it varies? We were expecting a functional, flashy toy which would delight younger kids with it's "high tech" features, and this does exactly that!

1 out of 5 stars Save Your Child Heartache. Do not buy this.   December 21, 2007

My son was crying tonight because he couldn't open his safe and get out his valuables. I tried repeatedly and could not also. I tried googleing the company to see if there is a release somewhere but I cannot even find the company on the web. Save your child heartache. Do not buy this.
