Editorial Review Evidence that the robotic dinosaur revolution is spreading, this Roboraptor comes fully assembled and ready to roam the earth with his robotic dinosaur cousins. He has movable arms, a swiveling head, a sweeping tail, and a chomping jaw full of pointy teeth. Measuring 32 inches from nose to tail, the Roboraptor is a big enough to intimidate any smaller predator that may come along. While this raptor hasn't yet developed his full hunting skills, he's still a lot of fun and comes with over 40 preprogrammed functions, three distinct moods, and the ability to detect things in its path with infrared vision. He also comes equipped with automatic shutoff and a demo mode. Roboraptor is steady on his feet, but works best on smooth, hard surfaces. --Heather Lyndon
Product Description Roboraptor is a predatory dinosaur robot with instincts to match his wild technology! His mood determines his behavior. He'll go into predatory mode, nervous and cautious mode, or into a friendly, playful mode depending on how he wakes up. Laser tracking system allows you to draw his path to the prey, and he'll follow it. He loves to play tug of war, and he's sensitive to his environment, so he'll stay away from table legs. Requires 6 "AA" batteries (not included) and 3 "AAA" batteries for the remote (not included). Measures 32"L x 11"W x 9"H. (Measures 32" from head to tail.)

The overpriced paperweight June 24, 2009 A few years ago, I wrote a review on Roboraptor (see the rewiew 'fun but had big flaws.') I enjoyed it then, despite the walking problems. Now, three years later, I would like to rewrite that review. DO NOT BUY THE ROBORAPTOR. You are setting yourself up for a huge disappointment! If you watch the commercial for this product, you will notice how attention is drawn to the 'touch sensors.' These are not sensors, they are buttons. This is a major letdown. Second, this toy does not walk at all. It will waddle around without moving anywhere, and mine actually fell over once. I have not played with this toy for 2 years, and it stays in my closet, collecting dust. Whenever I am about to purchase an expensive item, my family always reminds me to consider the 'roboraptor incident.' I spent $100 on this, and though it costs slightly less now, it is still ridiculously overpriced. AGAIN, DO NOT BUY THIS $80 PAPERWIEGHT.
realistic toy January 7, 2009 Marcia Morrell We got this for our five y.o. granddaughter who loves dinosaurs and she actually 'slept' with it the first night. He is so realistic in some of his moves that sometimes he frightened her at first, but she truly loves this toy.
Roboraptor January 1, 2009 Angel Arias Rivera (Puerto Rico) I have a 5 year old boy who absolutely loves dinosaurs, and that Christmas morning when he tore off the wrapping and saw what was underneath it all, eyes wide open full of emotions, believe me just the look on his face that Christmas morning was worth it all.
My 6 year old loves it! November 29, 2008 K. O'Connor (Bay Area, California) My son saves his own money for most of his toys. His dad and I started this after we got tired of buying toys only to have our son play with them for one day and then stayed buried in the toy box or sit on a shelf. Each week he earns up to $10 allowance and he chooses an item to save for. On some level I think it actually helps him appreciate his toys more, but with the Roboraptor I think he would have loved it either way. It's true that it's quite difficult to get out of the box. My son is old enough to want to be helpful, but young enough to be impatient and more than anything delay the process with his questions and frustration. Plan on a good 20 minutes to extract him, and have a small phillips head screwdriver handy. Once we were able to free Rexx (my son's name for the robot) and get all of the batteries in place, Rexx came to life! He was on hunt mode, I think, because if we made noise he growled and moved in our direction. We were laughing histerically while running away from a dinosaur that stands less than a food off the ground! We read the book and my son is now able to use the remote and put Rexx into the different moods. Rexx's behavior is distinct enough that I can take one glance and identify which mood my son has him in. I think our favorite mood is playful. Rexx wags his tail, sniffs everything, stops and cocks his head to one side when he hears a sound, and more. We do have hardwood floors, which I imagine allows Rexx to navigate more easily. He does occasionally get stuck in a corner on roam mode, but he will back up and turn when he can sense an object. Does he run faster than a child? No! His legs simply aren't long enough! Is Rexx noisy? Yes. He walks around growling and sniffing, his hard plastic feet make a tapping sound on the floor, and the mechanics to move his body make a humming type sound. Is he able to completely navigate and respond to his environment? No, of course not. And if technology is that advanced, it's not in my price bracket! Buy this dinosaur with realistic expecations of a plastic toy that runs on AA batteries, and you will be pleased. My son has spent at least 20 minutes a day for the past 2 weeks playing with Rexx. His imagination fills in some of the gaps! Enjoy!
robo raptor July 12, 2008 This is robot is fun to use, because it can walk, move its mouth, and play games. It is best to use it on wood or tile, because it won't be able to walk on carpet, and it doesn't scratch the floors because it has pads on its toes. Sometimes it doesn't listen to your commands. It is a fun toy.
