Great pump, but what's with the beeping??? January 3, 2009 Sam (Los Angeles, CA) When I first started pumping, I used a hospital grade pump and purchased the Medela parts that went with it (shields and bottles). When I returned that pump, I needed to purchase my own pump. After reading the reviews, I decided that this one would be my best bet (and you can't beat the price). Pros: This pump works just as well as my hospital grade pump did, and you can adjust the speed and suction, which is nice. It's relatively easy to clean, too. It's small, so it's easy to find a bag to carry it around in, along with all the extras you'll need if you're planning to pump at work, or anywhere other than at home. It fits standard-size bottles, which is nice. Cons: You hear the suction noise with this pump (which isn't bad), but it also beeps along with the suction. I have NO IDEA why the beeping is necessary, but I find it a little aggravating (especially when I'm pumping at night, or at work). It's not discreet, that's for sure. Also, the parts aren't BPA free, so I don't use the bottles. I actually use the Medela bottles that I purchased for my other pump, because they're a standard size, BPA free, and can be sterilized in the microwave (which is MUCH easier when I'm pumping at work.) The shields have to be washed by hand, or they can be put in the dishwasher. It's a little bit harder to find replacement parts for this pump (I've found you generally have to order them from the Lansinoh website--do yourself a favor and figure out which parts you will need duplicates of after you've received the pump--order them all at once because the shipping isn't cheap). Overall, I'd recommend this pump because it's very effective, and is a great deal.
BPA free with a conversion kit. Eazy to use and clean. January 2, 2009 Marianne Walters (Hancock, MI USA) This is a wonderful pump at an excellent price and you can make it BPA free by buying the Ameda Purely Yours BPA free conversion kit. The Lansinoh pump is the same as the Ameda Purely Yours pump but it is cheaper since it does not come with a bag. They make a BPA free accessory kit for Ameda Purely Yours which replaces the breast flanges, the bottles and the lids with polypropylene containers and you are still saving money. I found the accessory kit at mothers boutique.com for $19.99 plus shipping. This way you get the cheaper version of the pump and you can be BPA free. The pump wonderful. Easy to use, easy to clean, simple to put together and now you can make it BPA free. I bought this pump for my second child after suffering through two awful medela manual and semi manual pumps for my first child. This is a wonderful, inexpensive, easy to use pump.
Great customer service January 2, 2009 O's mom I got this last year on the fly when my son was born a month early. I had not done any research but saw this one and bought it because it was more resonably priced than most. It worked really well for about 6 months and then started making this horrible noise. Since I pumped at practically "real time" I was worried it would stop working and I would be in big trouble with my litte boss. I called Lansinoh and they not only said it would be replaced, they sent me the replacement first so I would not be pumpless. They sent a pre paid postage for the return of the old one and that was it. The new one has worked great!
Don't give up on breastfeeding. December 27, 2008 Mary A. Burns (San Diego, CA) I ordered this pump for my daughter when her son was born. The pump helps to increase milk production. Breastfeeding can be difficult and very time consuming for some new moms and babies so don't give up even if you have to supplement with formula. The benefits are well documented so some is better than none. This pump works very well.
great pump December 27, 2008 frequent buyer I'm easily able to pump about 4 oz in 20 minutes or so on the lowest suction setting, so it's very comfortable, even more than my manual pump. It is also extremely lightweight. I'm so glad I went with this instead of the Medela - I just use the Enfamil diaper bag for a carry case. I've read some complaints about the noise, which hasn't been a problem for me, however I haven't used it in a setting where discretion was necessary. I've also read that the Lansinoh storage bottles do not fit - mine do. So I'm not sure what the issue is for others...maybe there is an older version of the pump or storage bottles that are incompatible? I'm not sure but I haven't had any problems with that.
